Olive Garden Breadsticks

This can be dairy-free if you brush them with olive oil and garlic instead of butter and garlic.

1 1/2 cups warm water
1 pkg active dry yeast
2 Tbl sugar
3 1/2 cup flour, more or less as needed
2 Tbl unsalted butter, melted
1 Tbl salt


Topping:
1/2 cup butter or olive oil
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp kosher salt

In large bowl, dissolve sugaar and yeast in warm water and allow to sit for 10 minutes to activate yeast.
Add flour, salt, and melted butter to yeast mixture.  Mix with paddle attachment of stand mixer or wooden spoon until fully combined.

Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray.  Pull off pieces of dough and roll out into strips.  Cover the dough with a light towel and let sit in a warm place for 45-60 minutes to allow dough to rest and rise.
Preheat oven to 400.

When preheated, place the cookie sheet inoven and bake 6-7 minutes.
 Mix the topping ingredients.
After baking 6-7 minutes, brush with half of the topping mixture.
Continue to bake for 5-8 minutes more.
After removing from ove, immediately brush the other half of the topping on the breadsticks.
Allow to cool for a few minutes before eating.
